    Chicken and Rice for Dogs?

Have you ever fed chicken and rice when your dog became ill? Did you get this advice from a friend, the internet, or a veterinarian? Feeding chicken and rice is widely viewed as a well-known and ageless remedy for digestive upset. However, it is not the method I prefer or ever recommend to clients with sick pets. This diet is especially not meant to be fed long-term either. These are a few reasons why: 1) The diet is extremely unbalanced. 2) Chicken can increase inflammation

Cleaning Procedures and Salmonella Regarding Raw Diets

You may find this surprising, but I don’t like handling raw meat, eating meat, or smelling thawed meat. So I make sure to clean every surface during and after prepping my dogs raw meals. Not cleaning the surfaces raw meat has touched can be potentially harmful to you (the human) because of cross-contamination. This is not something to be overly worried about or prevent you from feeding your dog or cat raw, but it's something to be mindful of. “Salmonella may be found in the i

    Apple Cider Vinegar for Pets

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is made from “apple cider that has undergone fermentation to form health-promoting probiotics and enzymes” (Dr. Axe). Make sure you look for these 3 key words when buying ACV: 1. Organic 2. Unpasteurized 3. Unfiltered I prefer to use the brand, Bragg, because it meets this criteria. ACV needs to be a brown/orange color, not clear. The Benefits of ACV are : ▪️Relieves inflammation such as hot spots, yeast infections, itchy skin, and other all

Nutrients and Benefits of Eggs for Dogs and Cats

Benefits of Feeding Eggs Eggs are a great addition to your pets raw or kibble meals. As shown in both graphics, eggs contain many beneficial nutrients. Eggs not only add vitamins, minerals, and protein, they also help improve your pets coat and skin. "Duck eggs are an Alkaline producing food, which is a great benefit to cancer patients as cancer cells do not thrive in an alkaline environment. Chicken eggs are an acid food leaving a dogs body more acidic" (Nutrition Data). Th

    Myoglobin

These cubes were made from myoglobin that was left over from my beef kidney prep. It’s a liquid substance that seeps out of the meat you’re prepping. There was so much of it that I decided to freeze it into cubes and add to my dog’s meals. “The red liquid, instead, is a mixture of water and a protein called myoglobin (not blood), whose purpose is to help ship oxygen to muscle cells. Myoglobin is deeply pigmented, which is why the more myoglobin a meat contains, the darker (or

Why I Don't Use Chia and Flax Seeds as A Source of Omega-3's

A few people asked me if flax seed was a good substitute instead of fish on my recent post about adding omega-3’s to your pet’s food. The answer to this is: no. What are the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids? “Research shows that omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation and help lower risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, kidney disease, cancer, and arthritis. Omega-3 fatty acids are important for cognitive function (brain memory and performance)” (University of Maryla

    Organ Cubes for Picky Eaters

These organ cubes are made up of beef kidney, apple cider vinegar, and blueberries. A common issue among new and experienced raw feeders is getting their dog to eat the organ in their raw meals. I have one dog that has an issue eating organ as well. He spits it right out! I have tried a few different methods of trying to get my dog to eat organ, but it ended up being very messy and time consuming. So I made organ cubes! My dog eats any organ with no issues now. I make these
