Blackberries contain antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. The minerals they contain are manganese, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, fiber and smaller dosses of zinc, iron, calcium, and copper. The main vitamins found in blackberries are C, K and E.
Vitamin C is important for collagen formation in bones, connective tissue, and blood vessels. Vitamin C can help:
• Heal wounds
• Improve skin
• Fight free radicals (molecules released by toxins) in the body
• Absorb iron
Blackberries are also high fiber. Fiber helps promote regular bowel movements and healthy gut bacteria.
Blackberries contain manganese which is vital to healthy bone development and a healthy immune system. Manganese helps metabolize carbs (from kibble) and amino acids. Like vitamin C, manganese plays a role in the formation of collagen. The enzyme that helps manganese form collagen, prolidase, helps wounds heal properly. Manganese can help prevent decreased bone density, manage blood sugar levels, and reduce epileptic seizures.

Adding blackberries throughout the week in your pets meals is beneficial, especially for active dogs and those with health issues mentioned above. However, do not add one whole cup at a time.
